Yair Netanyahu, the son of Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu was recently interviewed for Mandiner by historian and MIMC founding member László Bernát Veszpremy.
Veszprémy was asked about the interview on the Kossuth Rádió national radio station. Veszprémy explained that the fact that in Hungary it is not pro-Hamas activists but the son of the Israeli PM who is interviewed in major newspapers is characteristic of the sane approach of Hungary to the Middle East conflict.
Veszprémy also stated that he tried asking Netanyahu about the responsibility of the Israeli elite in the events on October 7th 2023, but “that part of the conversation was not very fruitful”. Veszprémy also mentioned that he used to volunteer as a text writer for the Jewish watchdog group Tett és Védelem Alapítvány (Action and Protection Foundation) for a number of years.
In the Mandiner interview, among other things, Netanyahu said that
“I think the Israeli people are tremendously appreciative and thankful for Orban and his government and for Hungary for always standing up for Israel and having Israel’s back and always protecting Israel in the EU and the UN and stopping anti-Israel and antisemitic resolutions. Hungary is an important ally of Israel and I think Israel is an important ally of Hungary as well.”
